School, Grades 1-9

Kozefò supports A New Arrival Center School (ANACS) which currently has over 150 students enrolled in 1st through 9th grade. Subjects taught include mathematics, reading, writing, science, social studies, French, Spanish, and English.

With the addition of the internet and technology devices, teachers and students can work together to use technology to enhance the curriculum. Optional summer English classes and extra tutoring are provided. The students take one field trip per year and perform a year-end Spektak in June.

Food Program

Kozefò currently offers a food program at ANACS which includes a nutritious lunch meal, a morning snack, and clean drinking water for all students, teachers, and staff.

The children of the Pernier community often go without a meal for the day or perhaps only receive one. The provision of a quality meal improves health and mental performance, allowing the children we support to maximize their full learning potential.

Teacher Development

Kozefò offers educational seminars where teachers can have interactive dialogue with colleagues regarding their teaching strategies, in addition to being exposed to current instructional strategies that foster creativity and cooperative learning. Our teachers meet regularly to discuss experiences, share knowledge, and produce solutions to their problems in the classroom.

The goal is to establish a “Community of Practice” within ANACS, where teachers feel comfortable discussing the successes and failures of their teaching practices in order to learn from each other in a way that promotes more effective practices in the classroom.

Technology Initiative

Kozefò has a classroom set of Chromebooks, an LCD projector, a printer, and tech accessories for the school. ANACS was accepted to become the first Google Apps for Education school in Haiti. There is also a technology teacher and wifi.

Accessing information and learning skills via technology will enhance learning for the students of the school, developing as 21st Century Learners. Students actively make choices about how to seek/search for information, as well as how to display/share what they are learning. Critical thinking, problem-solving and cooperative group work are integral skills within the technology initiative.
